一、depend
1、depend作为不及物动词，常与介词on 或upon连用，后接名词或代词：
e.g.例句：You should not listen to rumor.你不大约信赖谣言。
2、depend 作“依托”解，这今后接“名词（代词）+ for something”：
e.g.例句：All living things depend on the sun for their growth. 一切生物的生长都依靠于太阳。
3、depend作“信赖”解，后接动名词或动名词复合规划：
e.g.例句：Susan can depend on their arriving here safely. 苏珊信赖他们可以平安抵达这儿。
4、depend作“盼望”解，后接“sb. + 不定式：depend somebody to do”：

5、depend 作“看…（情况）”解，后接从句：

8、take over 替代，接收，继承：Who will take over his job？他的作业由谁来替代？
9、take to
（1）喜爱：He took to Mary as soon as they met. 他一见玛丽就爱上了她。
（2）养成习气，沉溺于：He soon took to drinking again. 不久他又喝起酒来。
（3）去（某地某处）：He was ill and had to take to bed. 他病倒了，只好卧床。
10、take up
（1）初步（学习或从事等）：He dropped medicine and took up physics. 他扔掉学医，初步学物理。
（2）持续：We took up our journey the next day. 第二天咱们持续赶路。

（4）接收，承受：He has taken up the bet. 他已承受打赌的条件。
（5）提出，谈论：There’s another matter whichwe ought to take up. 还有一件事咱们要提出来协商。
11、take somebody something=take something to somebody给或人带/送去某物
e.g.例句：Take her some flowers. =Take some flowers to her. 带一些花给她。
12、It takes/took（somebody）some time to do something 做某事花（或人）时刻
It took him half an hour to mend his bike. =It took half an hour for him to mend the bike. 他修补自行车花了半个小时。
三、关于set的短语
1、setoff
（1）启航，启航（去某地）：Little Tom and his father set off for America last week.小汤姆和他的父亲上星期启航去美国。
（2）引爆：The man set the bomb off in aditch.那人把炸弹放在沟里引爆了。
（3）致使，使（或人）初步（做某事）：
e.g.例句：Don’t set him off talking politics，or he will go on all evening. 不要引他谈论政治，要否则他就整个晚上谈下去。
2、setout
（1）启航，启航（去某地），意思等于 set off for a place：
e.g.例句：The Chinese team held a meeting for a whole day before setting outfor Barcelona for the Olympic Games. 我国队在去巴塞罗那参加奥运会之前开了一整天的会。
（2）初步，着手（做某事）：The moment I got home，I set out to do my homework. 我一到家就初步做家庭作业。
3、setabout doing something 着手（做某事），意义与 set out to do something 相同：
e.g.例句：That evening he set about writing a report on pollution.那天晚上，他着手写一篇关于污染的陈述。
4、setup 树立，创建：
e.g.例句：In the Southern States the slave owners wanted to set up a countryof their own，where theycould freely keep black people as slaves.在南边各州，奴隶主们试图树立一个他们自个的国家，在那里他们可认随心所欲地把黑人当作奴隶。
5、set down
（1）写下，记下=write down：You had better set down your ideabefore you forget it. 你最佳把你的定见写下来，避免忘掉。
